Where AxleKite works

AxleKite is built to be global, but a 4x4 build check is only as good as the local rules behind it. We open a market once its lift, certification and inspection rules are written down and checked against official sources — so every country listed as coming soon is a market we have not verified yet, not a feature that is merely hidden.

  • NSW

    New South Walesconfirmed

Ride height can be raised 75 mm in total without certification — up to 50 mm of suspension plus 25 mm from larger wheels and tyres. Between 75 mm and 150 mm needs a licensed certifier.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • VIC

    Victoriaconfirmed

Up to 75 mm total ride-height increase without certification — 50 mm of suspension plus up to 25 mm from larger tyres. Anything more needs a VASS signatory's approval and a mod plate.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • QLD

    Queenslandconfirmed

Up to 50 mm from modified suspension plus up to 25 mm from larger tyres counts as a basic modification with no certification. Anything higher, up to 150 mm, is 'High Lift' and must be certified by a TMR Approved Person before registration.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • WA

    Western Australianeeds confirmation

WA sorts modifications into Basic (no approval), Simple (inspection at an Authorised Inspection Station) and Complex (engineering certification and CEO approval). Small suspension and tyre lifts fall in the basic band; a high lift is Complex.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • SA

    South Australianeeds confirmation

Up to 50 mm total lift in any combination of suspension, body blocks and tyres is uncertified. Above that you need a Statement of Requirements from DIT Vehicle Standards plus a Light Vehicle Engineering Signatory report, and DIT issues a Certificate of Engineering Compliance.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • TAS

    Tasmanianeeds confirmation

Tasmania applies the national code: small suspension and tyre lifts are uncertified, and anything that affects performance or safety standards must be inspected and certified at an Approved Vehicle Certifier station.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • NT

    Northern Territoryneeds confirmation

NT groups work into Minor (no approval — bull bars, tow bars, lighting, factory wheel and tyre options), Basic (checked at a government inspection facility) and significant or extensive changes needing the Technical Advisory Committee.

    Lift and tyre rules

  • ACT

    Australian Capital Territoryneeds confirmation

Access Canberra splits modifications into owner-certified work needing no prior approval and significant or extensive changes needing a recognised engineering signatory's report before inspection.

United States

Build checks only

You can configure a build, see measurements in inches and approximate US prices, and check your lift against state rules with source links and last-verified dates. What is not here yet: local workshops and retail stores, so quote requests are not routed to businesses, and no US certifier or engineer network.

38 of 51 jurisdictions confirmed, 13 flagged as needing confirmation

  • AL

    Alabamaconfirmed

Alabama sets no statutory limit on suspension lift, body lift, frame height, or bumper height for light trucks/SUVs. Only a general overall-vehicle-height cap of 13.5 ft (including load) applies.

    Height and inspection rules

    Height and inspection rules

  • DC

    District of Columbiaconfirmed

No suspension-lift, body-lift, or frame/bumper-height numeric limit. 18 DCMR §733 only requires bumpers to be securely attached and not protrude beyond original fender lines or show sharp edges — it sets no height figure.

    Height and inspection rules

    Height and inspection rules

  • IL

    Illinoisneeds confirmation

Illinois sets detailed maximum bumper heights by GVWR class (measured to the bottom of the bumper), with an absolute statewide cap of 28" front / 30" rear regardless of GVWR. A previously reported 3" body-lift figure could not be confirmed as a distinct Illinois statute.

Trucks up to 4,500 lb GVWR: max frame height 24" front / 26" rear. Suspension lifts need an installer certificate shown at inspection; body lifts max 3" and banned on ABS-equipped vehicles.

    Height and inspection rules

  • MD

    Marylandconfirmed

No statutory limit specifically on suspension or body lift height. COMAR 11.14.02.07 sets maximum bumper heights instead: 20" for Class A passenger vehicles, 28" for Class E light trucks and Class M multipurpose vehicles. Transportation §22-105 separately bars alterations that reduce bumper/suspension effectiveness or render the vehicle unsafe.

    Height and inspection rules

  • MA

M.G.L. c.90 §7P and 540 CMR 6.00 limit mechanical/body height alteration on 4WD vehicles up to 10,000 lb GVWR to 2" above or below the original manufacturer height (via lift kits, tires or other means) without Registrar approval; beyond 2" the vehicle must meet additional rules in 540 CMR 6.05 (maximum combined mechanical + tire lift), and inspectors can reject unsafe alterations at the annual inspection.

    Height and inspection rules

  • MI

    Michiganconfirmed

MCL 257.710c sets frame-height and bumper-height limits by GVWR class, caps added rear suspension lift blocks at 4" (none allowed on the front axle), and limits body-lift blocks to single-piece spacers of 3" or less. Height and inspection rules

  • MS

    Mississippineeds confirmation

Mississippi Code §63-7-105 (2024 "squatted vehicle" law) bars operating a passenger motor vehicle, including pickups, where suspension/frame/chassis alteration raises the front fender 4" or more higher than the rear fender. It is a front-to-rear rake rule, not a cap on total lift for vehicles raised evenly. No separate body-lift, frame-height or bumper-height statute found.

    Height and inspection rules

  • MO

    Missouriconfirmed

RSMo 307.172 sets max bumper height by GVWR (22" front/rear for passenger vehicles, higher tiers for heavier classes) and bars body alterations that obstruct driver vision.

    Height and inspection rules

  • NH

    New Hampshireneeds confirmation

No New Hampshire statute specifically limits suspension/body lift, frame height, or bumper height for light trucks/SUVs.

    Height and inspection rules

  • NJ

    New Jerseyneeds confirmation

New Jersey is the most restrictive state: N.J.A.C. 13:20-37 requires an Elevated Vehicle Approval Certificate and windshield decal for any vehicle raised via lift kits, blocks or oversized tires (tire-diameter increases of 4" or less are exempt). Maximum lift is tiered by GVWR — 7" above original vehicle height for the lightest class, more for heavier classes.

    Height and inspection rules

  • NM

    New Mexiconeeds confirmation

No New Mexico statute specifically limits suspension/body lift, frame height, or bumper height for light trucks/SUVs; only an overall vehicle height cap of 14 ft applies (NMSA §66-7-404). Widely circulated online claims of a 30"/34" bumper-height cap could not be verified in any official source.

    Height and inspection rules

  • NY

    New Yorkneeds confirmation

No numeric statutory limit on suspension lift, body lift, frame height, or bumper height found in VTL Title 3; lifted vehicles are judged under general "safe operating condition" equipment criteria at the annual inspection (VTL §§301–303, 375; 15 NYCRR Part 79).

    Height and inspection rules

  • NC

    North Carolinaconfirmed

No statutory lift, body-lift, frame, or bumper-height limit for passenger vehicles/light trucks. The only restriction is an anti-squat rule: after suspension/frame/chassis alteration, the front fender may not sit 4" or more higher than the rear fender, measured vertically through the wheel centreline to the bottom of the fender.

    Height and inspection rules

  • ND

    North Dakotaconfirmed

No suspension/body-lift limit as such, but NDCC §39-21-45.1 caps body height at 42" (ground to floor of the cargo area) and requires front/rear bumpers no higher than 27" (measured to the highest point on the bottom of the bumper, or a compliant horizontal drop bumper at least 3" tall).

    Height and inspection rules

  • OH

    Ohioconfirmed

Ohio Admin. Code 4501-43 sets maximum bumper/frame-rail heights by GVWR class (bumper max 26" for light trucks) and a 4" maximum body-floor-to-frame lift gap (OAC 4501-43-03(D)); applies to cars, multipurpose vehicles and trucks up to 10,000 lb GVWR.

    Height and inspection rules

  • OK

    Oklahomaconfirmed

No statutory lift, bumper-height, or frame-height limit exists under Title 47. General overall-height caps (13 ft 6 in on county roads, 14 ft elsewhere) and the fender-over-wheel requirement (§12-405.3) still apply.

    Height and inspection rules

  • OR

    Oregonconfirmed

No cap on suspension, body lift or bumper height. The front fender may not sit 4" or more higher than the rear fender.

    Height and inspection rules

  • PA

    Pennsylvanianeeds confirmation

67 Pa. Code §175.209(b) sets a single bumper-height band for trucks of 16–30" above ground (not split by GVWR class); passenger vehicles are held to 12–20". No separate suspension-lift or body-lift-gap limit; §175.209(c) imposes a "scrub line" minimum ground-clearance rule instead.

    Height and inspection rules

  • RI

    Rhode Islandconfirmed

Vehicles up to 10,000 lb GVWR may not be raised more than 4" from factory height by lift kits, tires or other means.

    Height and inspection rules

  • SC

    South Carolinaneeds confirmation

S.C. Code §56-5-4445(A) caps elevation or lowering at 6" for passenger motor vehicles, but pickup trucks are explicitly exempt from that cap. The statute does not define how SUVs are classified, so a lifted SUV appears to remain subject to the 6" cap as a passenger vehicle. No safety or emissions inspection program exists.

    Height and inspection rules

  • SD

    South Dakotaconfirmed

South Dakota's vehicle code (Title 32) contains no statutory limit on suspension lift, body lift, frame height, or bumper height for any vehicle class; lift kits, oversized tires and aftermarket bumpers are not regulated beyond overall vehicle dimension limits (102" wide, 14 ft tall, 45 ft long).

    Height and inspection rules

  • TN

    Tennesseeconfirmed

Non-4x4 passenger bumpers capped at 22"; registered 4WD vehicles must keep bumpers between 14" and 31".

    Height and inspection rules

  • TX

    Texasconfirmed

Texas Transportation Code Ch. 547/621 sets no lift, body-lift, frame-height, or bumper-height limit for light trucks/SUVs; the only height-related equipment rule is headlamp mounting height (24–54") under §547.321, which effectively constrains how high a lifted vehicle's headlights can sit. Non-commercial periodic safety inspections were eliminated statewide Jan 1, 2025 (HB 3297); emissions-only testing continues in designated metro counties.

    Height and inspection rules

  • UT

    Utahconfirmed

Frame height capped by GVWR: 24" under 4,500 lb, 26" to 7,500 lb, 28" above. Body floor no more than 3" above the frame.

    Height and inspection rules

  • VT

    Vermontconfirmed

Vermont's official DMV Periodic Inspection Manual (VN-113) sets bumper-height limits at the annual inspection: pleasure cars 22" front/rear; trucks & MPVs up to 4,500 lb GVWR 24" front / 26" rear (higher bands for heavier classes; 4WD/dual-wheel trucks 28"/31"). The body-to-frame-top gap (body lift) is capped at 4". Bumper height is measured to the bottom of the bumper, or to the bottom of the frame rail if bumpers/attaching components were modified to meet the standard.

    Height and inspection rules

  • VA

    Virginiaconfirmed

Va. Code §46.2-1063 (amended 2026, Ch. 497) sets explicit bumper-height ranges by class: passenger vehicles 14–22"; trucks up to 4,500 lb GVWR 14–28" front and rear (higher bands for heavier classes). Body lift is capped at 3" above the frame rail/attachment points, and the front bumper may not sit 4" or more higher than the rear. Height is measured to the bumper bar, or to the bottom of the frame rail if bumpers are absent or were lowered.

    Height and inspection rules

  • WA

    Washingtonconfirmed

No suspension-lift or frame-height limit. Body lifts allowed up to a 4" body-to-frame gap; bumpers must be at least 4.5" tall if originally fitted.

    Height and inspection rules

Vehicles up to 10,000 lb GVWR: bumpers (or frame rail) must stay between 6" and 31"; body lift max 3" over the factory spacer.

    Height and inspection rules

  • WI

    Wisconsinconfirmed

4WD trucks up to 8,000 lb may sit up to 5" above factory height (max 9" combined with bigger tyres); other vehicles capped at 4".

    Height and inspection rules

  • WY

    Wyomingneeds confirmation

Wyoming Statutes Title 31 contain no provision limiting suspension lift, body lift, frame height, or bumper height for any vehicle class; §31-18-802 only sets overall vehicle width (102") and height (14 ft) limits for highway operation.

What a market needs before it opens

  1. 1. Rules, sourced. Every state, province or region needs its lift, tyre, lighting, inspection and emissions rules written down with an official link and a checked date.
  2. 2. People who can sign off. A local network of certified mechanics, fabricators and engineers, so a partner-certified build means something in that market.
  3. 3. Businesses to route quotes to. Workshops and retail stores that register, get approved and receive quote requests near their customers.

Run a workshop or store somewhere else?

Tell us where you are. Markets open fastest where the businesses and builders already are, and registered workshops are the first thing we line up.

List your business

AxleKite shows planning guidance, not a certification. Work above a state’s uncertified allowance still needs a local certifier or engineer before it can be registered.

Australia and the United States are the only markets where builds, quotes and partner credentials are live today. Everything else on this page is planned, not in progress on a date we have promised.
